🚘 “DON’T BLAME THE CARS, BLAME THE DRIVERS“

Phoenix park Dublin

•For many people, the journey to and from work are the bookends of the daily grind. But how we choose to travel to the office, schools or even to pop to the shops, is also one of the biggest day-to-day climate decisions we face.
In countries like the UK and the US,and I guess in Ireland too,the transport sector is now responsible for emitting more greenhouse gases than any other, including electricity production and agriculture.
Globally, transport accounts for around a quarter of CO2 emissions.
And much of the world’s transport networks still remain focused around the car.
Road vehicles – cars, trucks, buses and motorbikes – account for nearly three quarters of the greenhouse gas emissions that come from transport.
It’s very important to acknowledge that while electric cars are better for the environment, they still present problems.
They don’t emit exhaust fumes, but they do use batteries which can emit toxic fumes.
Most electricity used to power electric vehicles is generated from non-renewable energy sources, which can have a negative impact on both our health(mental health especially for kids)and the environment.
If you really want to have the biggest impact, if you can’t really stay without a car, perhaps you could look into the alternatives to owning a car – what about car sharing?-renting a car?

•We need to reduce the number of the cars on the street.
We are not in the position to think that if we switch to electric car we are saving the planet. It’s not good enough!
It’s not just about pollution, it’s also a problem of space , cars are parking everywhere on the footpaths, public parks etc.
Our kids can’t play safe anymore on the street, they can’t be safe on the bike, you can’t let them walk to school by themselves because they need to cross the road and many drivers don’t respect traffic lights.
It’s very worrying.

Do you know why some drivers are legally requirement to pay a motor tax if they want to drive a vehicle in a public place?because they are contributing to CO2 emission, not because they own the road.

“The way we get around each day can make a big difference to our own carbon footprint and to the future of our kids .”
